EUROPE - Purpose & PEACE Plan - 2009-2011
Pastoral Training Strengthens Churches Church leadership program works through 14,500 local pastors and church members
FRIDAY PRAYERS - Droves of faithful Muslims - including a few French converts - partake in Friday prayers outside a Paris mosque, this one located just minutes from Notre Dame. Africans and Turks comprise the bulk of France's Islamic population. (IMB) PHOTO PROJECT OVERVIEW In spite of the great spiritual moments in the history of Europe all the way back to the first century Europe's spiritual health is ailing. Less then 2% of the population are evangelical Christians and in most countries it is even less then 1%. At the same time millions of people from restricted countries are immigrating to Europe looking for freedom and new hope but only finding spiritual emptiness. But all over Europe God is raising Pastors and Church Planters who are willing to take the risk and to do whatever it takes to built healthy reproducing churches. So now is the time to significantly impact the European community by building the local church. In the first year of this three-year project therefore Saddleback Church will empower and provide tools for 100 pastors and church planters from France and other European countries coming to Paris.
Each of the pastors will then go back to his country to coach and mentor at least 10 fellow pastors. Through this process, Saddleback Church expects to provide church leadership training to about 14,500 European pastors and church members in the first year. They will understand and adopt Saddleback's plan for themselves and their churches, as well as a new style of preaching and the assimilation process. They will establish membership classes, baptize new believers, organize small groups and increase the number of volunteers involved in church ministries and local mission outreach.
After starting with Paris Saddleback Church will then assist the European Pastors to expand the number of training location to the four corners of Europe according to the 4 major religions of Europe.
From these four locations the training will be expanded to every nation of Europe and Eurasia. EXPECTED RESULTS Benefits 14,500 people:
THE PEACE PLAN The P.E.A.C.E. plan is a project created by Saddleback Church to battle five Global Giants that affect billions of people around the world: Spiritual Emptiness, Self-Serving Leadership, Extreme Poverty, Pandemic Diseases and Rampant Illiteracy. To fight these Giants, the P.E.A.C.E. Plan will: Promote reconciliation, Equip leaders, Assist the poor, Care for the sick and Educate the next generation. PROJECT DESIGN In directing this project, the local Pastors of Europe and Saddleback Church understand that God works with and through the local Church. Saddleback Church will provide two training sessions a year for three years for Pastors and Church planters in Europe. They will receive the tools and a understanding of the five purposes identified in the Great Commandment and the Great Commission and then, in turn, train others. This Church health model provides a biblically based approach to establish, transform and maintain a balanced, growing and reproducing congregation that seeks to fulfill the God-given purposes of worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and missions. Training topics include: Year 1
Year 2
Year 3
Training will empower Pastors and Church Planters to lead and plant healthy and reproducing Churches, as evidenced by their understanding and adoption of the five purposes for themselves and their churches, change to a application preaching style, adopt an assimilation process, implement a discipleship process and small group system and increase the number of baptisms, volunteers and local and global outreach. Pastors will be inspired and equipped to coach and train other Pastors what they have learned themselves.

TRACK RECORD
PURPOSE DRIVEN MINISTRIES, a program of Saddleback Church, has trained more than 400,000 Pastors from 162 Countries and hundreds of denominations. Training takes the form of small seminars, Pastor Gatherings and large Conferences. Last year 200 Pastors from throughout Rwanda received training in implementing the PEACE Plan and are now training 2000 other Pastors all over Rwanda. As a result so far 70 new Churches have been planted, 6000 new small groups started, 10,000 people were baptized, 20,000 first decisions for Christ and 60,000 new members were added to the Churches in Rwanda. A leadership Summit for another 70 leaders from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda identified needs and implemented community development projects, such as road repair, trash clean-up, nutrition and HIV/AIDS education, food preparation for hospital patients and service to elderly widows. Twenty-four community development trainers learned to lead their denominations in community development.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS "Before the training, I thought that I was the person to do everything in church. After the training, I have been able to identify others and delegate tasks to them. I now have more time to rest, the church is growing and more people now feel that the church belongs to them. In addition, tithes and offerings have increased. The members have also contributed and built three churches and we are currently working on the fourth. Saddleback has trained us and some church members on disease prevention and HIV/AIDS." - Jean Marie, .senior pastor, Presbyterian Church of Kibuye -------------------------------------------- Welcome to The Purpose Driven Journey! God has called us to fulfill five purposes while we are here on planet earth. So, we must teach our people to fulfill God’s Purposes now and we must prepare the next generation to do the same. God can do great things through any church that is fully committed to serving His Purposes. The time that we will be spending together is designed to be both inspirational and practical. It is a comprehensive look at the Purpose Driven process and how it relates to your church. It is our desire to demonstrate a clear step-by-step model and a practical plan for you to follow as you pursue the Purpose Driven Journey in your life. We believe that The Purpose Driven Journey can provide you with vision, a process, and the tools to be effective in your church’s ministry in the world through the power of the Holy Spirit. We want to share this journey with you so that you will not miss out on the exciting adventure in which God is leading His church. We are looking forward to meeting with you! For God and His Purposes, Pastor Abraham Meulenberg Pastor Dave Holden Saddleback Valley Community Church What is the PD Journey about? 1. Building the Kingdom of God – It All Begins with the Glory of God The Purpose Driven Journey begins and ends with the glory of God. God is building a Kingdom. We have the privilege of serving him as co-workers in his eternal plan. God's plan was made known to us from the beginning. He is redeeming mankind through the death and resurrection of his Son, so that we might live with him and enjoy life in His Kingdom forever. The beginning and the end of the Purpose Driven Journey is the glory of God made manifest through his Kingdom. It's not about us. It's all about God. “The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy him forever,” says Westminster Confession of Faith. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He gives us life and holds the keys of death and eternity in his hands. He is my creator and the journey of my life is my act of worship to him. From the Lord's Prayer we learn that He is building his Kingdom “on earth as it is in heaven.” 2. Developing a Christ-like Heart – Letting Your Heart Be Broken God uses the person with a Christ like heart. When Jesus loves, I must love. My heart must be broken by those things that break the heart of God. God loves the lost and the troubled His spoken desire is that “not one should perish” but all might repent and come to eternal life. At the core of the heart of Jesus is love. My heart is to be like his. There are times in the life of a believer that where we will experience discontentment. Our minds can be filled with questions about the effectiveness and success of our ministries and even our lives. I want my heart to be like Jesus' heart. 3. Believing God’s Eternal Plan- God’s Assignment Scripture reveals God’s will and God’s plan. Just what is God’s assignment for the leaders of his church? What are we to do? There is only one place for us to go for answers. That is the word of God, the Bible. Our entire ministry must be based upon what God is doing in this world and his commands. God has revealed to us what he is doing in this world- his plan for us personally and for the building of his Kingdom. In his word I can find the answers for my life. I can find his clear exceptions for me and my ministry. The Bible provides examples and strategies for me to follow and gives clear direction for how to develop my ministry. In the Bible I can find my next steps. His commands are not to be questioned, but obeyed. 4. Making Disciples – Our Task is to Make Disciples Not Mere Converts The task of the church is to make disciples, not just increase attendance. We learn that the Bible teaches us that there are five purposes that we discover from two passages of Scripture. These are the passages that all believers from every denomination and culture have agreed to call “Great”. Jesus commands us to do certain things as a church and as individuals. A healthy disciple obeys and keeps all five purposes in balance. These are the “commands” of Christ. They are not “suggestions”. We have no choice but to obey our Lord. 5. Growing Healthy Churches – The Process of Making Disciples Effective disciples are developed by healthy churches. The church is a disciple-making factory. Evangelism that leads to the creation of converts is a good first step, but it falls short of what God wants us to accomplish. To make mature disciples we have to first know what one looks like. A disciple is the one who makes a difference in the world around him. We are called to make disciples: fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. How do we make a disciple such as this? As leaders, God expects us to design a process for developing Christ-like disciples. A healthy church has a plan to reach, teach, build and send workers into the world for God's glory. People can sit in church services for decades and still not lead the life of a disciple. A church with a clear purpose and an intentional plan to take believers through a series of steps to full maturity in Christ will be the church that impacts the world. 6. Reaching the World for Christ – Doing What Jesus Did. Healthy churches reach the world for Christ. Balanced believers, living life on purpose, will do what Jesus did. The world is filled with trouble, and yet, it is also filled with God's people overcoming those problems. The gigantic problems of lost people, corrupt leaders, sickness, poverty, and ignorance must be addressed by God's people. Our intentional model for being “on mission for God” is called The P.E.A.C.E. Plan. This Plan addresses the global giants of hunger, disease and ignorance, as well as the development of servant leaders, new ministries and churches all around the world. 7. Being God's Leader for God's Glory – Being the Person God Uses Servant-hearted leaders obey God for his glory. The Purpose Driven Journey not only begins with the glory of God, but it ends there as well. God is glorified when I live my life according to his purposes and teach others to do the same. When I understand and adopt God's purposes for my life, it gives me a reason to live, people to partner with, a meaningful job to do, and vision for the future. At my life's end, because I have lived my life on purpose by the grace of God, I will hear the words, “Well done you good and faithful servant. Come into my presence and enjoy me forever.” We believe that God is doing something extraordinary in the world, and it is being done through the church. Some have called it a Second Reformation. Many think this next wave in the life of the church is about what we do – our behavior. In line with this, Rick Warren – Pastor of Saddleback Church and author of The Purpose Driven Life and The Purpose Driven Church has stated that his goals are to: - Change the way unbelievers think about Jesus - Change the way believers think about life and the church - Change the way pastors think about preaching - Change the way the church thinks about the world - Change the way the world thinks about the church We believe that the Purpose Driven Journey provides the vision, process and tools to be effective in the world through the power of the Holy Spirit and through his church. We want to share this journey with you so you will not miss out on the exciting adventure in which God is leading his church. |
